Deadline: Max Planck Institute Cologne Potsdoctoral Fellowships

31/01/2008

Post-Doctoral Program

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Cologne, awards a number of postdoctoral
fellowships each year to researchers from Germany and abroad.

The fellowships are for twelve months, normally beginning on October 1.

Eligible are young researchers who have completed their dissertation, as are assistant professors who have not yet received tenure. Also eligible are researchers who hold positions as “wissenschaftliche Assistenten” or “Juniorprofessoren” if they can get a leave of absence from their university positions.

Postdoctoral fellows may do research on a topic of their choice. Research projects should relate to the substantive concerns of the institute’s research program in economic sociology and political economy . The MPIfG also has independent research groups on the politics of liberalization and on institution building across borders.

Awards are made on the basis of scholarly excellence and of a research proposal outlining a project to be pursued at the MPIfG. Stipends are based on the fellowship guidelines of the Max Planck Society. They are not subject to income tax or social security contributions. During their tenure fellows are expected to be resident in Cologne and participate in the intellectual life of the institute.

Applications should include the application form (see MPIfG website), a cover letter, a current CV, names and addresses of two referees, a list of publications and a four-to-six page project proposal.

Applicants should also indicate how much time they would want to spend at the MPIfG and when they would like to start their tenure. They may apply in German or English either by e-mail or post. If e-mail is used, all documents should be compiled into one attached file.

The deadline for submission is January 31, 2008. Awards will be made and applicants notified in April 2008.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to improving opportunities for women in science.
