The Department of Human Geography and Regional Development of the University of Ostrava launches a call for papers for its conference on:
'Globalization and its Impacts and Localities'

Within the wide conference theme the following topics are suggested:
Political section:
- right to self-determination, separatism, irredentism, autonomist tendencies of localities
- development of democratic systems on the local scale
- sub-national resistance against globalization
- trans-border networks of local political actors and their impact
- impact on the local governments and political institutions
- public administration in context of globalisation
- political parties in the process of globalisation
Cultural section:
- local problems of multicultural societies
- transforming religions
- conflicts over local identity
- globalization of culture and role of languages in multiethnic regions
- regional-linguistic identities
Economic section:
- trans-border cooperation – the phenomenon in the 21st century
- impact of trans-national corporation on local places
- IT and its role in the perspectives of local economy
- localization of science, research, education and a new economy
- economic migration from the local perspectives
Environmental section:
- global warming and its impact on seaside areas
- globalization as a source of natural dangers
- impact on biodiversity, natural formations and natural protection in local perspective
- nuclear waste and its disposal
- environmental and economic conflict over the planned investments.
The conference working language is English and the fee amounts to 50€.
