Faculty position in the field of Ottoman Studies

Central European University (CEU) is seeking to fill a position in the field of Ottoman Studies at the School of History and Interdisciplinary Studies, as a joint appointment between the Departments of History and Medieval Studies.

This position will be the first in Ottoman Studies at the CEU and will serve to strengthen this field of research in both departments. We encourage applications by candidates whose training and expertise is focused on Ottoman studies in general (including an ability to teach Ottoman Turkish), with a concentration on the late medieval and early modern periods (14-18th centuries). In line with our strong emphasis on comparative and cross-cultural studies, and in accordance with the CEU’s overall profile as an innovative and critical place of research and reflection, we invite applications with a strong interest in either social, gender, and institutional history or in intellectual history and in the encounters of ideas and cultural traditions from East and West. In particular, Candidates should have a strong interest and research record in theoretical and historical questions concerning religion and religious phenomena, past and present. The appointment is for four years, renewable; rank is open and salary is negotiable and competitive.
