The Hertie School of Governance is devoted to the analysis of problems in public policy and governance. Its Master of Public Policy (MPP) program qualifies students for leadership positions in the public and private sectors as well as in civil society at both the national and international level. It also is initiating an Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM) program.

The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in the MPP or EMPM program as well as in Executive Education seminars. In addition, the School’s faculty will contribute, in their respective field of scholarly competence and against the background of their previous work, to research on the changing role of the state and the challenges of modern governance. The position is to be filled by spring 2009.

Applicants for this position should have a doctorate or PhD in sociology or a related field of the social sciences. We expect a specialization in the broad field of organizational sciences as applied to both public and private sector organizations. The candidate should have a track record in theoretically grounded empirical research. Expertise in innovative research methods, both quantitative and qualitative, is a further asset. The candidate should be both qualified as well as prepared to work in a multidisciplinary environment and to teach graduate and executive level courses in public management and public policy but will also be asked to develop new course types within the field of organization sociology.

Applicants should have:

- an international profile
- published extensively in top social science journals
- a proven record in teaching

Experience in consulting or training in public, private or non-profit organizations would also be
advantageous. As a professional school, the Hertie School of Governance seeks faculty with a commitment to intensive, high quality teaching and with experience in advising and the interaction between research and public policy.

All applicants are expected to be professionally fluent in English, the teaching language of the Hertie School. Command of the German language is expected to be acquired over time.
