AMERICA FOR BULGARIA FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP FOR ADVANCED DOCTORAL
STUDENTS (FADS) 2010

The America for Bulgaria Foundation (http://www.americaforbulgaria.org) invites applications for Fellowships for Advanced Doctoral Students affiliated with accredited Bulgarian institutions.

Program Description

This program will support one-month research related to the topic of the applicant’s dissertation at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/) or the American Research Institute in Turkey, Istanbul and Ankara Centers (http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/ARIT/). Research projects in any field of archaeology or history are eligible. Applicants whose dissertation subject requires study in both Greece and Turkey may apply for a two-month fellowship, one month in the ASCSA and one month in the ARIT.

Stipend

The Fellowship is up to $ 2900 per month, which includes accommodation in ASCSA or ARIT, full board, travel expenses and daily allowance of $ 600 per month (to be used for personal expenses and expenses related to research, such as photocopying).

Eligibility Requirements

The applicants must be Bulgarian doctoral students in accredited Bulgarian universities or research institutes. Although preference will be given to advanced doctoral students who are within the required limit of their program, others, who are in the process of completing their dissertation, are also encouraged to apply. English proficiency is required. Knowledge of modern Greek or Turkish is an advantage. Short-listed applicants will be interviewed at the American Research Center in Sofia (http://www.einaudi.cornell.edu/arcs).

The application must consist of the following materials, in English:
1. The Application form
2. A project description (maximum of two pages)
3. A Curriculum Vitae
4. Two letters of recommendation

All application materials must be received by December 21, 2009. The review of applications will begin immediately. Expected notification for the awards will be in late December. Applications may be submitted in hard copy to:
