The Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, IWM), an intellectually and politically independent institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences, has recently published four new calls for application. The majority of IWM fellowships are awarded in open competition, involving calls for application and evaluation by expert juries. Research proposals are currently invited for the following programs:

Milena Jesenská Fellowship for Journalists

This program offers experienced European journalists (including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey) time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice. During the next fellowship term (September 2022–June 2023) four Fellows are invited to spend three months each at the IWM in Vienna, Austria.

Paul Celan Fellowships for Translators The aim of the Paul Celan Fellowship Program is to overcome deficits and asymmetries in the exchange of ideas and the reception of scholarly literature which result from the division of Europe in the 20th century. Paul Celan Visiting Fellows are invited to spend three months between September 2022 and June 2023 at the IWM to pursue their translation projects.

Jan Patočka Junior Visiting Fellowships

This fellowship program is dedicated to commemorate Jan Patočka's name and work. It aims to foster groundbreaking research in the humanities and social sciences. The fellowships enable Czech researchers to work on a project of their own choice. Jan Patočka Junior Visiting Fellows will be invited to spend six months between September 2022 and June 2023 at the IWM to pursue their research projects.
